Titans Appoint Bobby Brown as Field Manager

Oct 20, 2021

Ottawa, ON – The Ottawa Titans Baseball Club announced on Wednesday the appointment of Bobby Brown as the team’s Field Manager.

The 47-year-old brings over 20 years of professional baseball experience as a player, coach, scout, and Manager to the Nation’s Capital.

Brown debuted as a coach with Allan Hancock College in 2007, before getting his first managerial job with the Las Cruces Vaqueros of the Continental Baseball League in 2010.

After a brief stop in the North American League in 2011, Brown joined the American Association, where he’d stay for nearly a decade. As the skipper of the Abilene Prairie Dogs (2012), Amarillo Sox (2013-2014), Amarillo Thunderheads (2015), and the Lincoln Saltdogs (2016 – 2019), Brown took home Manager of the Year honours in 2017. That year, he guided the Saltdogs to a 58-40 record and a Central Division championship, which was the team’s first since 2014.

“It was a pleasure to have Bobby playing with the Winnipeg Goldeyes from 2000-2002,” said Titans President, Sam Katz. “He was a valuable member of the Goldeyes family. I know he will do great things as Manager of the Ottawa Titans. We are extremely proud to introduce Bobby as Manager of the Ottawa Titans and welcome him to Canada’s Capital.”

The Van Nuys, California native parted ways with the Saltdogs organization after the 2019 season to become the Director of Baseball Operations and Hitting Coach for the Frontier League’s Gateway Grizzlies before the pandemic cancelled 2020 season. Brown recently served as the Hitting Coach for the Pioneer League champion Missoula PaddleHeads in 2021.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to head up to Canada’s Capital in pursuit of helping the Titans organization establish deep roots in the baseball community on and off the field,” highlighted Brown. “I want to thank Sam Katz and ownership, along with the front office for entrusting me and our staff in this inaugural season. Mr. Katz always treated me like family in the three season I played in Winnipeg. I look forward to meeting everyone involved with the organization and work together on bringing a championship caliber team to Ottawa.”

As a player, Brown played the outfield at the University of Oklahoma, where he hit .362 in 1995 on route to a berth in the College World Series. Later that year, he signed a professional contract with the Frontier League’s Springfield Capitals. After a strong finish to the season, Brown had his contract purchased by the Kansas City Royals organization. From 1998-2005, he would go on to play for seven different team’s before retiring.

He ended a very successful playing career slashing .301, with 368 RBI in 623 career games.

Brown is no stranger to baseball north of the border as he suited up for the Northern League’s Winnipeg Goldeyes (2000-2002), then the Canadian Baseball League’s Saskatoon Legends (2003).

The Ottawa Titans are scheduled to hit the field in late Spring of 2022 playing in the Frontier League, a partner league of Major League Baseball.
