OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE
Brockton, MA - Shane Gray (win, 2-0) hurled the first complete game shutout of his career - helping the Ottawa Titans (20-15) to a 5-0 victory and the series sweep over the New England Knockouts (11-24) on Thursday - winning their sixth in a row.
It took some time, but the offence got on the board in the top of the second - capitalizing with the bases loaded - thanks to a two-run infield single from Christian Ibarra. The bouncing ball hugged the line - where third baseman Luis Atiles anticipated the ball to hook foul - but the Titans got a bounce and ended up scoring a pair to take a 2-0 lead.
The Knockouts were only able to register four hits against the Titans' right-hander - in which the home side had only two runners in scoring position all night long - one in each of the first and second innings but failed to score.
Gray faced just one more than the minimum in his final seven innings of work, retiring 22 of the final 23 for his second win of the season. The victory for Gray was his second of the season, both of which came against the expansion Knockouts. Gray allowed just four hits and struck out four to help his squad bust out the brooms for the second consecutive series.
Looking for extra insurance, the Titans took advantage of a pair of errors in the sixth - seeing a two-run double from Jake Guenther add to the lead against right-hander Matt Cronin (loss, 1-4) - before Jackie Urbaez cashed in another with a sac fly to centre.
The Titans have now won six in a row, their longest win streak since 2022, and ten of their last 11.
With Gray's complete game clean sheet, it marks the second time the feat has happened in less than a week and regular season franchise history. It also marks the third complete game in regular season team history, joining Grant Larson and Evan Grills.
AJ Wright, Jamey Smart, and Taylor Wright each extended their hit streaks to five games while Jake Guenther registered a knock in his fourth-straight contest.
The Ottawa Titans continue their six-game road trip with the first of three against the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Friday night at 7:05 p.m. from Stade Quillormana in Trois-Rivières, Québec. After the set in Trois-Rivières, the Titans return home for a six-game homestand starting Tuesday night against the New England Knockouts. All the action can be heard on CKDJ 107.9 and 94,5 Unique FM and live-streamed on Flo Baseball.
