Orozco drives in four as Titans even series with Aigles

June 16, 2022

Ottawa, ON – Led by Rodrigo Orozco’s four-RBI performance, the Ottawa Titans (19-7) picked up a 9-7 come from behind victory over the Trois-Rivières Aigles on Wednesday night.

The Aigles offence was firing on all cylinders in the second inning, putting up five on Titans lefty Evan Grills (ND, 2-1) to take an early 5-0 lead. Raphael Gladu and Steve Brown reached with hits, while Canice Ejoh and Joe Campagna were hit by pitches, as Grills was in trouble early on.

With one out in the bottom half of the inning, Jason Dicochea extended his hit streak to eight straight with a single, then Will Zimmerman lined a base hit up the middle for Orozco. The Panamanian drilled a Sam Belisle-Springer (ND, 4-1) over the wall in right-centre to get the Titans on the board. The three-run homer for Orozco was his second on the season and first since May 20th at Florence.

In his first game with the Titans, Andrew Martinez followed the homer with a base hit into right and later came into score on an AJ Wright single, making it a 5-4 game.

Louis-Philippe Pelletier blasted a solo homer off Grills with two outs in the fourth to extend the Aigles lead. Pelletier finished the game going 4-for-5 with a homer and two RBI.

Grills capped off his night going five and two-thirds, allowing a season-high seven runs (six earned), nine hits, and striking out four, getting the no-decision in his fourth start of the season.

Trailing by three in the sixth, Martinez came to the dish with one on and one out against Belisle-Springer. The first offering to the former Orioles farmhand was cranked over the wall in left, bringing the Titans within one.

Later in the inning, Brendon Dadson knocked in Jackie Urbaez with his tenth double of the year to pull the home side level.

In the seventh, the Titans loaded the bases against Canadian righty James Bradwell (loss, 1-2) who served up the eventual game-winning sacrifice fly to Orozco, scoring Tyrus Greene. Urbaez came up two batters later and delivered the same fate, plating Dicochea to put the game out of hand.

Gavin Sonnier (win, 3-0) pitched two clean innings out of the bullpen to earn the victory, while Kevin Escoria (save, 8) locked things down in the ninth, getting the Titans back in the win column.

The Ottawa Titans are back in action tomorrow evening for the finale of their three-game series with the Trois-Rivières Aigles at 6:30 p.m. from Ottawa Stadium.
