OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE
Schaumburg, IL - The Ottawa Titans (31-30) allowed six unanswered runs, including four in the seventh to lose the series opener to the Schaumburg Boomers (35-24) by a score of 7-5 on Tuesday.
Facing right-hander Aaron Glickstein (ND, 4-2), the Titans poured it on in the top of the first, scoring a trio of runs. After loading the bases with none out, Jason Dicochea's deep fly ball to left was able to plate AJ Wright to open the scoring on a sacrifice fly. Later, the reigning Player of the Week Taylor Wright extended the advantage with a two-run base hit to centre, making it 3-0.
Zac Westcott (ND, 4-5) worked out of a two-out jam in the opening frame before the Boomers got within a pair in the second inning. Following Kyle Fitzgerald's leadoff triple, Koko Figueiredo's single the opposite way to left got the home side on the board.
In the third, Jason Dicochea's triple to right scored Jamey Smart all the way from first to make it 4-1. Dicochea's second triple of the season stood aboard with none out but the Titans failed to extend their lead further.
The Boomers battled their way back with a Travis Holt two-run double in the fifth, pulling within a run at 4-3.
Zac Westcott would exit after six innings of three-run ball on five hits. The veteran righty tied a career high by walking five and striking out three in the quality start.
With the lead intact, Augie Gallardo (loss, 1-2) saw eight Boomers come to the dish in the seventh inning, leading to four runs on three hits. Chase Dawson's two-run single put the Boomers in front before Blake Berry's single cashed in two, making it 7-4.
Taylor Wright's solo homer in the eighth made it a two-run game before the Titans put the potential tying run on base in the ninth. With one out, Dylan Stutsman (save, 5) got Jackie Urbaez to pop out and Jamey Smart to ground out to end the ballgame.
The loss snaps the Titans' four-game winning streak and marks the third defeat for the team when leading after six innings this season.
The Ottawa Titans continue their three-game set at 12:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday afternoon at Wintrust Field against the Schaumburg Boomers. After three in Schaumburg, the Titans travel to Crestwood to face the Windy City ThunderBolts over the weekend.
