OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE
Washington, PA - The Ottawa Titans (13-17) dropped a 6-3 decision to the Washington Wild Things (13-17) on Thursday, seeing their five-game winning streak come to an end.
The Titans got to Justin Showalter (win, 2-1) in the top of the first as Sicnarf Loopstok lined a single to left, scoring AJ Wright and Jamey Smart to make it 2-0.
Showalter's shaky first would be the lone damage the Wild Things' righty would allow in the series finale, going seven strong innings. From the bottom of the fourth on, Showalter retired ten in a row to pick up the quality start and win.
The offence for the Wild Things would take it to Titans starter Zac Westcott (loss, 2-4) as they scored six unanswered runs.
Melvin Novoa got the home side on the board with an RBI double in the first, before Robert Chayka's RBI single in the second tied the game. Novoa and Andrew Czech would extend the lead with hits in the fourth to knock Westcott out of the game. With the Titans committing a pair of errors in the sixth, Scotty Dubrule's single ended up plating two runs to make it 6-2.
Westcott went five and a third, allowing six runs (five earned) on 12 hits, walking one, and striking out four.
Matt Valin, Erasmo Pinales, and Kenny Williams combined for two and two-thirds of shutout relief, striking out five.
In the ninth, Brandon Bannon cashed in a Taylor Wright single with a fielder's choice, making it 6-3.
With the loss, the Titans have their five-game winning streak come to an end. Jamey Smart went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and a walk while Taylor Wright went 2-for-4.
The Ottawa Titans continue their road trip when they open a three-game series with the Joliet Slammers tomorrow night at 7:30 pm ET at Duly Health & Care Field in Joliet, IL.
