OFFICIAL FRONTIER LEAGUE BOX SCORE
Ottawa, ON - The Ottawa Titans (2-1) took a wild back-and-forth series finale with a 13-11 victory over the Empire State Greys (1-1) on Sunday.
The Titans got to starter Andres Rodriguez (ND, 0-0) in the first inning, with an RBI single from Jamey Smart and a sac fly from Jason Dicochea to take a 2-0 lead.
Manny Garcia would lead off the bottom of the second with a solo shot to left, a part of a five run second, extending the lead to 7-0.
In his first professional appearance in almost two years, Trevor Clifton (ND, 0-0) quickly saw the lead trimmed, as the Greys posted five of their own in the top of the third. Clifton would go three complete and allow five runs (one earned) on six hits, while punching out five in his return to the hill.
An RBI single from Christopher Cespedes and a solo homer from Josh Sears would bring the Greys level in the top of the fourth off Alec Thomas, seeing the 7-0 lead evaporate.
The see-saw battle would continue until a wild pitch from Nick MacDonald (win, 1-0) would plate Steve Barmakian in the top of the seventh, as the Greys took their first lead of the afternoon at 8-7.
With two on and two out in the bottom of the seventh, the Titans rallied to take the lead with Mitsuki Fukuda's two-run single off Carson Ferry (loss, 0-1) to put the Titans back ahead at 9-8. Jackie Urbaez would plate Fukuda with an RBI single, then AJ Wright plated on a wild pitch, seeing the Titans extend their lead to 11-8.
Both sides would exchange two-run innings in the eighth, before a wild finish took place in the ninth. With one on and two out, Eric Callahan took Gleyvin Pineda to the wall in right, scoring one. Callahan attempted for the inside the park homer, but was nailed at the dish on a terrific relay throw from Ivan Marin to the plate to finish the ball game.
In the win, Jackie Urbaez went 3-for-4, Manny Garcia went 2-for-3, and Jamey Smart drove in three to extend his team lead to seven RBI.
After an off day tomorrow, the Ottawa Titans hit the road for a six-game road trip through Evansville and Gateway beginning on Tuesday at 7:35 pm at Bosse Field in Evansville, Indianna.
