Troy, NY - The Ottawa Titans (17-21) emerged victorious in Sudden Death for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Tri-City ValleyCats (21-17) 7-6 on Saturday.
For the second-straight night, the Titans got on the board early, tallying two runs on four hits against Gabriel Jaramillo (ND, 0-0) in the first. After two singles opened the night, Sicnarf Loopstok and AJ Wright delivered RBI knocks to put the Titans in front.
Zac Westcott (ND, 2-5) tossed a pair of shutout frames before a Trey Hair RBI single cut the deficit in half, scoring Ian Walters in the third.
The ValleyCats got to the Titans' starter in the fifth, taking the lead on RBI singles from Jakob Goldfarb and Carson McCusker to make it 3-2.
Westcott would go five and allow three runs on six hits, walking two, and striking out one.
Brac Warren, Coleman Huntley III, and Greg Veliz kept the Titans silent with five shout innings of relief in support of their starter.
Nick MacDonald tossed two scoreless frames out of the bullpen for the Titans before Jaxon Hallmark's solo homer in the eighth off Chris Burica made it 4-2.
Down to their final three outs, Reymin Guduan surrendered a game-tying two-run home run off the bat of Jason Dicochea in the ninth, tying the game at four.
Augie Gallardo sent the game to extras by fanning Zach Biermann and Aaron Altherr with the potential winning run at third.
In the tenth, the Titans were able to cash in with a pair of runs against Guduan with hits from Kanta Kobayahi and Brandon Bannon to take the lead at 6-4.
Down to their final strike, Cito Culver lined an opposite-field single to left against Trevor Clifton in the bottom of the tenth, tying the game at six.
Electing to play offence, the ValleyCats sent the heart of their lineup against Erasmo Pinales (win, 1-0) to the dish in Sudden Death, with Robbie Merced at first. Facing the Frontier League's leader in average and RBI, Pinales got Carson McCusker to strike out for the first out. On the play, Merced took off from first and was thrown out trying to steal against Mitsuki Fukuda to complete the strike 'em out, throw 'em out. Pinales then retired Zach Biermann on strikes to complete the game.
With the win, the Titans pick up their first-ever victory in the Frontier League's extra-inning tiebreaker, snapping their 0-4 record.
Jason Dicochea recorded his second-straight three-hit contest, going 3-for-5 with a double and home run.
